Healthy Tools

It’s in the news everyday.

Increasing sharply since the 1970′s, obesity has become a widespread epidemic throughout the United States. This growing problem, along with numerous other health concerns such as heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, cancers, sleep problems, and arthritis have changed the way many of us view our current lifestyle.

You may ask why a company that is listed as Image Consulting, has a health & wellness division. The reality is in the United States, weight does affect image. Weight and size bias is one of those subtle forms of discrimination. Often people aren’t really aware that they do it. Our culture has created assumptions about obese people mainly though the media. Look how obese people are usually portrayed on television. According to a report done November 9, 2011 by NBC News, even doctors have shown bias towards the patients they treat.

We’ve have been exposed to images that create certain views about people that are overweight or obese are stupid, sloppy, slow–these are just a few of the negative stereotypes overweight people face. These stereotypes are unfavorable and a major influence of weight-based discrimination. According to Mark Roehling of Michigan State University associate profession of human resource management who presented several meta-analysis studies that found weight showed drops in income and lack of promotions. This held true for every aspect of employment, from hiring to firing, promotions, pay allocation, career counseling and discipline.  While it’s always a good idea to be prepared, dress well and show up on time for a job interview, overweight people may want to pay special attention to these details, given the amount of discrimination they face in the hiring process.

We believe strongly to be your best, you need good health. Size isn’t always the issue. There are tools that help you dress to minimize “size” issue through our image consulting services. However, here we are addressing the real cost to you, your health.

It is difficult to make decisions that truly work for you. The foods industry promises good nutrition with over processed foods and a proliferation of “fat-free” and “low carb” choices. Add a $47 billion industry that supports the “wellness and health markets” with promises of a quick fix. True change is difficult. Some changes in the food industry is beneficial. For example, Wendy’s, the popular fast food chain, is catching up to McDonald’s. Not because of the burgers, but due to their new salad introductions–thanks to the low carb diet trends. Don’t be fooled into believing that trendy lifestyle habits and celebrity endorsed diets will improve your health. We strive to be breath of fresh air for developing realistic lifestyle changes.
